Ransomes Cellec

Ransomes Cellec

Alan Mattingly, who lives in New Zealand, has kindly let me have
these photographs of his Ransomes Cellec Mk.5 dating from the
earlier mid 1950's.  The machine weighs about 122 lbs without its
grass box.   The AC motor only powered the 8 bladed 18" (46cm)
cylinder.    The land rolls are "rubber sleeved".    This mower was
designed for use on fine grass - bowling greens and the like.  The
Cellec was the export version of Ransomes' Bowlic.  The Cellec/
Bowlic design was first set out in UK patent 429518 applied for in
1934.   This included easy removal of the cylinder and rolls.   The
Cellec - and Bowlic - mowers were announced in about late 1936.
